giant coffee cake

The classic sour cream coffee cake, just with more!


2 cups sugar

1/2 lb butter, softened and cut up

6 eggs

1 1/2 tablespoons vanilla

1 pint sour cream

4 cups flour

1/2 teaspoon salt

1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder

1 teaspoon baking soda

For topping and filling:

2 cups brown sugar

1 1/2 cups chopped walnuts

2 tablespoons cinnamon

  • Grease bundt type pan, I use round pan where the middle can be removed
  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees
  • Mix white sugar, butter, eggs, vanilla and sour cream
  • In separate bowl, mix flour, salt, baking powder, and baking soda
  • Mix both bowsl together
  • Mix topping ingredients
  • Add batter to bottom of pan alternate with topping,filling, end with topping on top, try to use most all of it
  • Bake 1 hour and 15-30 minutes
  • Cool

This recipe was given to me by my mother in law. I am not sure where it came from originally, but I have adjusted it slightly. I make it quite often. It serves an army.
